Introduction to Astronomy (I2A) Course

The I2A course will run in TWO 6-week parts on Monday nights in 2013:

  • Part 1 - Mondays 4th Feb to 11th Mar 2013 inclusive - Introduction, Observing the Southern Sky, Earth-Sun-Moon, Solar System, Telescopes, Stellar Evolution ... Apologies - registrations for Part 1 have now closed because the course is full. To enquire in case of a cancellation, please contact the Education Officer
  • Part 2 - Mondays 5th Aug to 9th Sep 2013 inclusive - The Electromagnetic Spectrum, Cosmology, Optics, Physics of Space Travel, Relativity, Astrobiology.

There are no prerequisites for these courses. They are suitable for people with no scientific or mathematical background. A short observing session may be included, weather permitting, at the end of each week’s class.

Our Presenter

Lesa Moore (BSc, MPhil) (aka Starry Lady), a life member of the ASNSW and a Macquarie University astronomy graduate, is a specialist in public outreach. Previous students have said that Lesa’s style is straightforward and helpful. 

Fees

The cost will be $90 for ASNSW members and $120 for non members for each 6-week course. Included in your fees are course notes and light supper.

When and Where

In 2013, the courses will be held at the Epping Creative Centre. Each session will run approximately two hours from 7.30pm.

Registrations have now closed because Part 1 of the course is full.

Enrolment numbers are limited and your place is not guaranteed until confirmed.
